Tower crane operator bekerja di ketinggian 30-80+ meter - fall protection adalah life-critical requirement untuk access dan egress cabin.

Fall Arrest System Components:

1. Full Body Harness

• NOT waist belt - full body dengan shoulder, chest, leg straps
• Dorsal D-ring untuk attachment
• Proper fit - snug but not restrictive
• Inspect sebelum setiap use - no wear, cut, fraying

2. Lanyard or Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL)

• Shock-absorbing lanyard: 1.8-2m length dengan energy absorber
• SRL (preferred): Auto-retracting, lock saat fall detected
• Rated untuk user weight + safety margin

3. Anchor Point

• Tower crane memiliki fixed anchor pada ladder atau vertical lifeline system
• Must support minimum 22kN (5,000 lbs) per person

4. Connector (Carabiner/Hook)

• Locking type - double-action atau screw-gate
• Inspect gate function

Access Procedure (Climbing to Cabin):

Before Climbing:

1. Pre-use inspection harness dan lanyard - no damage
2. Don harness correctly:
• Leg straps snug around thighs
• Chest strap adjusted
• D-ring between shoulder blades
3. Attach lanyard ke harness D-ring
4. Verify anchor system functional

During Climbing:

• 100% tie-off rule: Always connected ke anchor
• If using twin lanyard system:
1. Connect first lanyard ke anchor above
2. Climb to that point
3. Connect second lanyard to next anchor
4. Disconnect first lanyard
5. Repeat (always one attached)
• If using vertical lifeline dengan shuttle:

• Stay connected entire climb
• Three-point contact: Two hands + one foot OR two feet + one hand on ladder always
• No rushing: Steady, controlled pace

In Cabin:

• Some cabin require harness remain on dengan anchor inside
• Others allow removal once inside
• Follow site-specific procedure

Descending:

• Same procedure as ascending - remain connected

Inspection & Maintenance:

• Daily: Visual check untuk damage
• Monthly: Detailed inspection by competent person
• Annually: Formal inspection, documentation
• After fall arrest event: Equipment REMOVED from service - inspect by manufacturer

Rescue Plan:

• Site must have rescue procedure jika operator injured di height
• Suspension trauma: Can be fatal dalam 20 min - rapid rescue critical
• Rescue team trained dan equipped

Consequences of Non-Compliance:

• Fall dari height = almost always fatal
• Operator can be terminated untuk not using fall protection
